Howard Wallner, 82, of Enderlin, ND died Saturday at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND.

Howard Harold Wallner was born in Parkers Prairie, MN on October 10, 1931 to Otto and Laurena (Boeder) Wallner. He grew up in Parkers Prairie and graduated in 1950 from Parkers Prairie High School.

After graduation, he worked for Seegers Refrigeration in St. Paul, MN. He later enrolled at Molar Barber College in Fargo, ND and learned the art of barbering. He graduated in 1951. He worked for Henry Erickson in Enderlin, ND and also for Lee Dowman of Milnor, ND as a barber until he entered the armed services during the Korean War serving in the Army from 1952 to 1954.

In 1955, he returned to Enderlin and worked for Fred Carter as a barber. Howard was united in marriage to Lorene Herrman on October 7, 1956 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Enderlin. In August of 1957, he bought the barber shop from Carter. In 1974, he built his own barber shop and continued to barber there until October 1996 when he retired.

His hobbies were gardening, hunting and fishing. Many fishing stories were discussed in Howard's Barber Shop over the years.

He is survived by his wife, Lorene, of 57 years; daughter, Susan (Rol) Schroeder of Enderlin, ND; son, Lyle (Nikki) Wallner of Kalispell, MT; 3 grandchildren, Michael Schroeder, Britta Wallner and Sierra Wallner; brothers Roger (Eloise) of Parkers Prairie, MN, Myron of Port Angeles, WA, Dennis (Vickie) of Lisbon, ND; sister Carolyn (Kenneth) Babcock of Fairview, MT.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Laurena and a sister in law, Joyce Wallner.

VISITATION: 5-7PM Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at Armstrong Funeral Home, Enderlin, ND

FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:30AM Thursday, January 2, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Enderlin, ND

BURIAL: Pontiac Cemetery, Enderlin, ND
