Lawrence Ketterling

Lawrence Ketterling, 88, of LaMoure, ND passed away December 30, 2013 at the Oakes Community Hospital.

Lawrence was born April 23, 1925 in Fredonia, North Dakota to Daboldt Sr. and Elizabeth (Gall) Ketterling. He was united in marriage to Lois Erbele on March 22, 1947 at LaMoure. They made their home in LaMoure, where they raised their two children, Nancy and Gary. Lawrence worked for the LaMoure County Highway Department for 20 years, the City of LaMoure 6 years, Land O Lakes 13 years, and Jamestown Plumbing and Housing at Grandview Heights for 3 years as an on site manager before retiring. Lois passed away on December 27, 1996.

Lawrence was the oldest active member of the church and had been a member longer than anyone else. Lawrence loved the LaMoure Senior Citizen Center. It was his main social event and he enjoyed helping with Meals on Wheels. After his retirement, Lawrence also enjoyed helping people in the community. He was well known for snow removal, painting, and fixing things for anyone that needed help. One of the favorite things he and his son looked forward doing together, were traveling their many trips to Yellowstone National Park. This was a most treasured time for both of them, where many memories were made.

He is survived by his son, Gary, Fargo, ND; one grandson, Jeff (Terri) Nelson, Ames, IA; two great-grandchildren, Emma and Ally; his siblings, Louie (Olga), Ellendale, ND, Daboldt Jr. (Velda), Jamestown, ND, Ella Erbele, LaMoure, Deloris Anderson, Marion, ND, Alvin, Mesa, AZ, Marceal Nannenga, Mesa, AZ, and Palmer, Ellsworth, WI. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lois, his daughter Nancy, brothers, Edward, John, Harry, Art, Albert, and Henry, and a sister, Edna McLeod.

A prayer service will be held on Friday, January 3, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, LaMoure. His funeral service will be Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Nazarene, LaMoure. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery, LaMoure in the spring.
