A hardworking, witty, lover of hunting, lake shakers, and liver and onions; has finished his last project here on this earth, Sunday morning, February 16th, 2014. He was born into this world on the “fourth month, thirtieth, ‘51.” He married the love of his life just shy of 40 years ago on April 20th, 1974. He dazzled her with his dance moves, sense of humor and the perpetual glint in his bright blue eyes.

His tell-it-like-it-is daughters were taught the importance of silence while fishing, as he loudly cursed the fish who swallowed his hook. He also shared that the immediate cure for hiccups is a spoonful of sugar…and it was not a suggestion. Jeff will continue to live vicariously through his beloved son-in-law during deep water fishing and hunting excursions. We are positive that some of the stories he told, like it already happened, will come to fruition. He continued sharing life lessons with the arrival of his three-grandchildren. He was addicted to his grandkids, and regularly needed a fix. He proved his strong stature couldn’t be broken while doubling as a playground.

There was Jeff’s way, and there was, well…nope; there was just Jeff’s way. He had a knack for telling stories; half of which were true, although we’re not sure which half. He always appreciated a good joke and a good nap, but absolutely despised laziness and the smell of watermelon chewing gum. One of the most important tools in his tool box was a colorful vocabulary to complete any job in a precise manner. The crew at Colfax Farmers Elevator will attest to that, and can agree that his boot print will remain. He also logged many years at Mantador Hdwe. & Imp. and Visto’s Inc., Wyndmere.

Even during the time spent at many doctor’s visits (nonexistent until recently), his humor was at the surface. He routinely referred to a hospital call light as the ‘sensuous’ button… “Since you was up, would you get me a beer?” He answered the questions of “How is your appetite?” with: “I dunno, whatcha got to eat?” And “Are you allergic to any bandages or dressings?” with… “Turkey.”

He is survived by his wife Nancy (Bue), daughters Sara Lee of Virginia Beach, VA and Gina (Marshall) Ryg of Fargo, ND; his grandchildren Adrienne Lee, and Aria and Liam Ryg. He is also survived by one sister, Judy (Russell) Boen of Moorhead, MN and his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marjorie and Clarence, and brother Keith.
