Lois Carol Riedman

Lois Carol Riedman, 85, passed away peacefully, February 20, 2014, in Fargo, ND, surrounded by her family. Lois was born July 30, 1928 in Marion, ND to Leonard and Elvira (Anderson) Olson and was raised on the family farm north of Litchville, ND. She attended grade school at Plainview, a one-room school situated on the Riedman land. She graduated from Litchville High School in 1947 and went on to attend the New York Hairstyling Academy in Fargo. After graduating, she worked as a hair stylist in Valley City. On January 29, 1956, Lois married Ralph Riedman, her long-time neighbor, and they made their home on the Riedman family farm. Ralph and Lois were parents to four children, Cathy, Connie, Dan, and Greg. Lois loved her role as a farm wife and partnered with Ralph as they raised their children to value the land and country living. Within a 2-mile radius of the farm, they lived amidst a whole community of family who shared day-to-day life and special occasions. Ralph passed away on February 18, 1976 at the age of 54. Lois continued to live on the farm until moving to Valley City in the fall of 1978.

Lois was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Valley City, serving in many ways through her Circle and involvement with WELCA. She also enjoyed being a member of the Skandia Homemakers Club and the opportunity to get together with her neighbors once a month.

In October 2010, Lois moved to Riverview Place in Fargo where she resided until the time of her death.

Lois enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who affectionately called her Grandma Red. She was always up for any adventure that came her way, be it as far away as Prince Edward Island, Canada or as near as a drive down a country road. Lois marveled at God's creation wherever she went, from the most spectacular sunset on the North Dakota prairie, to the tiniest sea shell on an ocean beach. She was always warmhearted and approachable, and had a gift for making someone she had just met feel special. She took the time to intently listen and care about whatever someone had to tell her. She'll be missed by all who knew her.

Most of all, Lois lived her life in faithfulness to God and left a legacy of faith for those she left behind.

Lois is survived by her children, Cathy Muhle of Bellevue, NE, Connie Riedman of Fargo, ND, Dan Riedman (Maria) of Yakima, WA, Greg Riedman (Sindy) of Portland, ND; grandchildren, Scott (Shawn) Muhle, Karen (Dustin) Ness, Kyle (Claire) Muhle, Kristofer (Kari) Riedman, Michael Riedman, Angela Riedman, McKade Riedman, Kailer Riedman; and great-grandchildren, Ryan Muhle, Rowan Muhle, Elliot Ness, Flynn Ness, Nolan Muhle; sisters, Bernice Peterson of Portland, OR and Joyce (Francis) Dahl of Billings, MT; sister-in-law Barbara Olson of Valley City, ND; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, her parents, Leonard and Elvira Olson, and her brothers, Clayton Olson and Denzil Olson.
