MINNEAPOLIS – The only sounds that could be heard as Underwood players headed to the locker room were the click-clacking of spikes against the Metrodome tunnel ground and Grand Meadow celebrating its first football state title in the distance.
Mahnomen, Minn. - At football practice a week before Mahnomen’s bid for a second straight Minnesota Class 1A high school state title, Anthony Sanchez looked down at his helmet. It not only protected his head, but it represented his heart. The helmet belonged to Preston Walz, Sanchez’s best friend, who died in April.

Fargo Force goalie Brendan Jensen will never forget the trip to a cancer ward of a children’s hospital in Vancouver his hockey team took when he was 17 years old.
Jensen went room to room and saw kids ages 5 to 10 dealing with things no child in that age range should even know about.
FARGO – Dave Noah had lunch Monday afternoon with Chad Johnson, his friend of two decades.

MINNEAPOLIS – Hawley football coach Peder Naatz walked alone through the tunnel at the Metrodome on Friday toward his Nuggets’ locker room. He took his hat off, scratched his bald head, swallowed a few leftover tears and entered the locker room to try to explain to his Nuggets team why life isn’t always fair.
