DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – Lakes with ice, wind and cool temperatures were a recipe for a sub-par Minnesota fishing opener in the region on Saturday.
Anglers expected less-than-ideal conditions, but that didn’t stop many from baiting hooks and casting lines wherever there was open water.

FARGO – Fargo Davies freshman Katie Bye saw an opportunity to break from the pack on Monday, and she took it.
The result was a first-place finish in the girls 1,600 meters during the 49th Fargo Rotary Invitational track and field meet at Fargo South High School.
WEST FARGO – Moorhead junior sprinter Brady Andersen found himself in the middle of a talented group during the boys 100 meters on Friday afternoon at the Packer Relays track and field meet.
FARGO – It may not have been softball weather on Thursday, but that didn’t stop West Fargo and Fargo North from playing a doubleheader at Anderson Fields.
FARGO – Outdoor soccer made a triumphant return to the Red River Valley on Tuesday.
