I"m disgused with the verdict. If it was turned around and a young white man walked into that house and he was shot by a Native American man., He would be going to jail too. When is this going to be a NON colored thing.

R.J., it doesn't matter. There is no law against racial profiling for private citizens trying to defend themselves. And it may not have been an issue anyway. You are just making assumptions to prove a point that isn't valid in the first place.

Lori your post and your concern is stupid. This kid made his own choices. It really annoys me that you want to go there. Yes he was only a kid but he made his own choices. Yes they were dumb, just like everyone else at that age and when they were at that age. But don't try to blame someone else cuz this kid drank and couldn't hold his alcohol. If in fact he had been entering other people's house on different occasions, i don't think it was only due to alcohol. Especially so close of a time span. Kids die all the time, you can’t stop it. He was somewhere he shouldn’t have been, he was in a trigger happy renters’ apartment… The situation sucks. But it is what it is. I am not for or against either side in this situation, in this particular incident.

Why is this even a discussion? He unlawfully entered the resdence and for now we still have the right to bear arms and protect ourselves as American citizens. End of discussion. Moral of story. Don't get drunk and enter a residence that is not your own uninvited and you will probably live to see tomorrow.

That kid's family is in serious denial. And I'm tired of some people insisting that race had anything to do with it.

I'm not sure what decampassitate means (and neither does Google), but if you can split your firewood with bare handed karate chops then yes, I doubt you need a gun to protect yourself. Joel tried to take the gun from Mr. Allen, do you think he maybe could've gotten a phone away from him? At least if he was to dial 911 he could give an account of how the intruder was assaulting him.

Who provided all the alcohol to the 17 year old and let him drink enough to get that drunk? Why haven't they stepped forward?

A few posters think they can just take control of the situtation. Real stupid, I think two former Fargo residents would disagree, the one with the two by 4 that got his head smashed in and the Dentist that got his head smased in with a hammer, case closed for protecting yourself, ask questions later.

there's no doubt race played a part in this investigation & shooter's decision to shoot. THE QUESTION IS: how BIG a part did it play. now, the part it did play in the investigation might not make a big difference in this situation in a legal sense. but the part race played in shooter's decision to shot someone might be BIG. I wonder if the guy would have been so quick to shoot if the person was white!!!!
