the right to swing your fist ends at another person's nose. Keep your cancer causing crap to yourself. Just lost a sister to lung cancer. Last thing I want to see on campus is some idiot breathing in what killed my sister and breathing out something that may have killed my father.

Aren't freedoms something grandted in the constitution. And it says in the constitution that everybody has the right to light up, right? So what is the problem? Just exercise your constitutional right. Just remember, it also says in the constitution that people have the right to hit stupid people with a baseball bat.

Realist A likes to believe that walking through the occasional smoke cloud jeopardizes health. That is why all natural deaths are caused by second hand smoke.

Sweet, now this spring the cigarette butts are going to be all over the ground instead of in the bins! Now that NDSU is dry and smoke-free they should erect a church right in the middle of campus.

I really want to know how the policy will impact NDSU's new downtown campus. If somebody is walking past Barry or Klai Hall and happens to be smoking a cigarette, should they put their cigarette out 100 ft away from the building(s) and then relight once they are 100 ft past? Or is this supposed to be applicable for those who are not just passing on by? Additionally, what about smoking inside one's vehicle?

Ham M., I feel that in a tax funded institution a person has the right to be safe from second-hand smoke. If I go to a private institution that I know allows smoking and walk out complaining about smoking, I have no right to complain as I knew what to expect. However, a tax funded university? I feel I have the right to be there without jeopardizing my health.

They can stick their smoking ban where the sun doesn’t shine. NDSU is not private property; we the tax payers own it. This includes smokers, who pay extra taxes! So, I’ll smoke anywhere on campus that I like. This rule is discriminatory and certainly shows a lack of diversity and inclusiveness!

@Realist A; "as long as it is state funded....you have the right to be there and not be subjected to second-hand smoke" Smoke is not the point. The point here is the gradual errosion of freedoms without compromise. It's the principle of the issue. Remember the popular poem by Martin Niemöller : First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a communist; Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist; Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew; Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak out for me.
