By the way, ND was best in the jobs creation index for 2009: http://www.gallup.com/poll/125750/Job-Creation-Energy-States-Among-Brightest-Spots-Nation.aspx But it's mostly about the oil. Let's hope that boom lasts.

German Sheperd, everyone is well aware how close we were to a full-scale depression by the end of W's term. His anti-family spending policies nearly bankrupted our fine nation. Obama implemented emergency measures that saved our economy. I don't think your constant propaganda posted to these forums is having the effect you'd like. I suggest you find something useful to do with your extra time, which you seem to have a lot of.

Medium -- I know that other people have responded to you, but I just cant resist. I love how your statements just ooze sarcasm and you think that you being so witty and clever. Newsflash for you -- you arent. People like you drive me nuts. You live here and hate it, so why stay? You insult people and say that Fargoans are ignorant and are unware of the bigger world -- go find a different place to live in the bigger world if you dont like it here so much. As for you GermanShepherd -- you like to just get on here and post comments about Obama as much as you can and it gets old fast. You are just an old, bitter Republican with nothing better to do than shove your opinions and beliefs down other people's throats. There have always been food pantries around here (I used to volunteer at them many years ago) and there have always been hard times. Nothing like it is right now, granted but its never going to be a fairytale life no matter where you are. This isnt a Recession, its a Depression. Face it. Its done and there is nothing we can do to make it better by tomorrow. Suck it up and just keep chugging along. There are alot of people that are taking the system for granted and going to the food pantry when they shouldnt be. There are people out there that need the assistance but there are even more that need to go out and get jobs at McDonalds or something to help out.

My daughter has to eat a special diet and I became a little educated on all the food additives in pre-packaged items. If you don't believe it saves money to avoid them it still helps your health. The experts say don't eat food your great-grandmother wouldn't recognize. No,I don't follow that rule 100% but pretty close. There are books out there on how to make your own groceries and trust me in year's time the savings add up.I appreciated the words about planning around sales and using coupons.

Medium is right, people her are very smug. never friendly (or very rarely are). This is a larger city filled with small town people that are to scared to talk to anyone, cause this is the "big city" LOL. And it probably is just as cheap to get a tv diner then to cook it from scratch, but the difference is that you usually have 3 or 4 meal for the price of your lunch bowl... Donna is smart, makes variety out of cheap items... I've been doing that for some time now... Thanks Mom!! :)

Education is key - Not only on nutrition but on HOW to buy groceries. I live on a very tight budget and I consider myself a terrific grocery shopper. We have three major grocery stores in the area and they each have an ad weekly. Buy when products are on sale. One of the grocery stores rotates hamburger, beef, pork and chicken every four weeks. The week hamburger is on sale buy and you use two pounds a week - buy six pounds. OR pay almost double if you want it on a week it isn't on sale. Use coupons. Companies such as Betty Crocker have coupons available on their site, click on those you want, print them and match them to items that are on sale for even more savings. (yep not everyone has a computer or printer but they are available at public libraries) There truly are a great number of people that without the help of a food pantry would be going without. But I will also say that there are a great number of people that don't go without BECAUSE they use the food pantry... and it does become frustrating to see people that have the cell phones with all the bells and whistles, their kids have the ipods, their cars are nicer than yours and you would love to shop where they buy their clothes.... but you don't ~ instead you do without all of those things and you learn that an 18 cent package of top ramen (at walmart), a handful of frozen vegetables and some thin sliced beef can make a good meal!

Pre-cooked meals are not all more expensive. Matter of fact by the time you buy all the supplies to make meals it adds up fast. Also Medium:Fargo is a town of simple, ignorant people who are blissfully unaware of the bigger world. Really????? Do you REALLY need to say something like that? So YOU must know every single person in Fargo to classify us all under that sentence. That is a very ignorant statement to make about people you dont even know. Anyway, Fargo is still feeling what everywhere else is. I think its funny that people say Fargo isnt feeling it. Its not reduced hours, its the pay in Fargo is not great so people are having to do extra with Full time jobs not to mention finding time to be home so your kids are not running around with nobody paying attention to them.

Medium...I notice you list Fargo as home. What sets you apart from us? The weather is not the reason we live here, it's that the majority of the people here are not like you. The economy is the topic of discussion here. Please tell me how many cities are better off than your current address.
