Terry was born July 1, 1949 in Jamestown, ND. He was the firstborn son of Ben and Clara Staiger. In 1956, the family moved to Fargo where Terry attended Roosevelt Elementary through 5th grade. In the summer of 1961, another move to Moorhead, MN was made, and in 1967, Terry graduated from Moorhead High School. In 1971, he received a BA in Marketing from Moorhead State University.

On Friday, November 30, 2012, Terry Staiger passed away in the Palliative Care unit in Sanford Hospital of Fargo, North Dakota. He was diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer in January, 2012 and from then on, began a journey that was way too short for all the “sights” he wanted to see along the way.Terry was born July 1, 1949 in Jamestown, ND.
