Rita Bernadine was born May 21, 1918 to Adolph and Anna (Pechacek) Schrieber in Wahpeton, ND. She grew up on a farm near Doran, MN and attended grade school there, going on to graduate from Breckenridge High School in 1936. After attending the Wahpeton "Science" School, she worked at the Court House and Sagness Store in Breckenridge.
