Ernest was born April 11, 1925 in Leonard, North Dakota to Arnie and Josephine (Vangsness) Gronbeck. Ernest attended Leonard High School. He married Ella Fjelstad at West Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Kindred on December 18, 1949. The couple farmed south of Leonard.

Gronbeck, 87, formerly of Leonard, ND, passed away Monday, December 31, 2012 at Elim Care and Rehab Center, Fargo.Ernest was born April 11, 1925 in Leonard, North Dakota to Arnie and Josephine (Vangsness) Gronbeck.
