Arlan was born to Alvin and Alma (Sanden) Haiby of rural Pelican Rapids on October 25, 1932, the second of five children. In 1935, the family moved to Blackduck, MN where they farmed and logged. Arlan served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1954 to 1956. After being discharged he hauled gravel for the construction of I-94. In the fall of 1958, he hauled Fords as a car transport driver for K.W. McKee and retired in 1998 from Allied Auto.

Arlan Palmer Haiby, age 80, of Moorhead, MN, died on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.Arlan was born to Alvin and Alma (Sanden) Haiby of rural Pelican Rapids on October 25, 1932, the second of five children.
