MaryAnn Therkildsen, the daughter of George and Alma (Bjerkeset) Therkildsen, was born July 22, 1919 in Huron, SD. MaryAnn grew up and attended school in the Huron, SD area. When MaryAnn was 19, she attended a dance in Eckelson, ND where she met the love of her life, John Wendel. In 1949, John and MaryAnn bought their own farmstead south of Sanborn where they resided until 1976 when they built a new house in Sanborn, ND. While living on the farm many memories were made. John and MaryAnn raised four children. Farming was a family affair as well as feeding and raising the variety of livestock. The couple farmed until their retirement in 1980. MaryAnn had many memorable and loving characteristics. Some of which she will be remembered are her passion for family, faith, farming and fishing. Many may remember seeing MaryAnn and John fishing for countless hours on their pontoon at Lake Ashtabula. They were easy to spot, with John in his overalls and MaryAnn in her wide brimmed hat. Not to mention the stringer of fish that was often hanging on the side! Mary Ann Loved BINGO, oil painting, cards and dancing. MaryAnn was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Christian Mothers, Sacred Heart Guild Circle #4, the American Legion Auxillary and the Valley City Eagles Club. MaryAnn was an outstanding wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and friend who will be deeply missed by anyone who was blessed to know her.
