Calvin Lee Martin was born in Chaffee, North Dakota on July 12, 1925; he was the eldest of eight children of the late William and Ada (Hacke) Martin. He graduated from Chaffee High School in 1943, received a Bachelor’s degree from North Dakota State University in 1948 and earned a Master’s in Public Administration from the Maxwell School, Syracuse University in 1975.

Calvin Martin passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, February 9, 2013, in Annandale, VA, at age 87.
