Sybil Hardie was born on January 5, 1928, in White Rock, SD. Sybil grew up on a farm near Fairmount, ND. As the third of 10 children, she and her siblings were emblematic of a true family farm, as each of the children contributed to the daily chores required to sustain a living. At 18, Sybil enrolled at Ellendale Teacher's College, during which time she met the love of her life, Cyril. The two began their life together and Sybil left teaching to raise their six children, born to the happy couple in just 7 years. They moved to Fargo and in 1960 to Moorhead, MN, their final resting home.
