Nancy Lawson

The heart of the Lawson family, loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, Nancy Lee (Spicer) “Nan” Lawson, surrounded by loving family, was called to heaven by our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.

Nancy was born on April 22, 1940, the daughter of Henry and Lorene (Olmstead) Spicer. She grew up in Grand Forks and attended St. Michaels School. In her younger years, Nan was a carhop at Jacoby’s Drive Inn in Grand Forks. Nan was married to the love of her life, Walter Lawson, on August 16, 1958 in the Arvilla Presbyterian Church. The couple was married for 54 wonderful years. They made their home on a dairy farm south of Arvilla where she was a wife, mother and homemaker to her 5 children. Walt and Nan retired and spent the rest of their lives in Larimore. Family and friends were the passion of Nancy’s life. She always opened her home to anyone who wanted to visit over a fresh pot of coffee. She was filled with compassion and kindness and chose to use these gifts in helping others while she worked as a CNA for 30 years in Larimore and Northwood. Nan loved listening to music while working around the house as she cleaned and danced. With a zest for life, she loved to bowl, play cards, cook, chat, dance, and care for her family, She was a Sunday School teacher, active in the Ladies Aide and lifelong member of the Arvilla Presbyterian Church; president of the Arvilla-Emerado Lioness Club as well as a lifelong member. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walt; her two grandchildren, Michael and Amanda; her parents; and her siblings, Peggy, Jackie, Allen, Evelyn, and Darrell.
