Joseph C. Zubriski

Joseph C. Zubriski, 94, passed away Aug 21, 2013. He was born in Goodman, WI on July 7, 1919. He attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He was drafted into the Army and in April 1941 he began his military career as a Tech Sergeant and platoon leader of Antitank Company 128 Infantry. He fought in the Pacific Campaign, was captured by Japanese soldiers but managed to escape. The remaining men in his platoon were part of the Bataan Death March. He served until August of 1945 and returned to the U.S. to sell war bonds for the last month of obligation. He was awarded the Bronze star for his service in the Pacific War. He married Katherine C. Scott March 2, 1946 and returned to University of Wisconsin to earn his masters and PHD in Soil Science. In 1950 they moved to Fargo, ND to work at NDSU. He served as an assistant professor of soil science. He was promoted to associate professor in 1956 and full professor in 1963. His specialty was soil fertility and worked closely with the area farmers. He retired from NDSU in 1984. In retirement, he and his wife, Kay, spent winters in Mesa, AZ, but still called Fargo "home". He is survived by their three children(JoAnn, Jon, and Jennifer), 6 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. He will be buried next to Katherine in the Veterans section at Holy Cross Cemetery in F
