Todd West, director of NDSU’s Dale E. Herman Research Arboretum, hand-pollinates a magnolia tree in northern Wisconsin this spring. The work produced seeds of 50 different magnolia crosses that will be tested for winter hardiness and disease resistance in the coming years at the arboretum near Absaraka.
