The funeral for Orville Shockman, of Berlin, North Dakota will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2006, at 10:00 AM at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in LaMoure. Celebrant for the mass will be Father Michael Parrotta. Visitation will be on Friday from 4 to 7 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the church. Burial will be at the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, near Berlin.
Orville Shockman, son of August and Barbara (Weber) Shockman was born on July 15, 1922, at Berlin, North Dakota, where he grew up and attended school. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Schmidt on June 16, 1952. Orville and Marjorie lived and farmed in the Berlin area for 40 years, before retiring. For many years, the couple has spent their winter months in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Orville was an active member of the community during his farming years. He served on and was President of the Berlin Farmers Elevator Board, was on the school boards at Berlin and LaMoure, North Dakota, served on the National Advisory Board to the Department of Agriculture; and was also a trustee at St. John’s Catholic Church in Berlin.
Orville died on March 20, 2006, in Scottsdale, Arizona, following a lengthy illness under Hospice care. He was 83 years old.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie, Scottsdale, AZ; three daughters, Rosemary Shockman, Phoenix, AZ, Margaret (Mike) Nelson, Kearney, NE, and Annette (Glen Suchor) Shockman, Scottsdale, AZ; three sons, Peter (Joan) Shockman, Berlin, ND, David (Sylvia) Shockman, Bismarck, ND, and Josef (Arlene) Shockman, Phoenix, AZ; 18 grandchildren, Elliot and Seth Ginsburg, Melissa (Robert Cunningham), Matthew, Marcus and Mary Margaret Nelson, Joshua (Trista), Jonathan, James and Jacob Shockman, Lisa, Kaitlyn, Hannah and Gus Shockman, Zachary Shockman and Addy Suchor, Victoria and Joey Shockman; and two great grandchildren, Olivia and Kael Cunningham. Orville was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Marie, Louetta, and Ruth and two brothers, Lloyd and Elmer.
