Gordon Nelson Halvorson, 79, Fergus Falls, died Monday, Aug. 28, 2006, in Minnesota Veterans Home, Fergus Falls.

Gordon Nelson Halvorson, 79, Fergus Falls, died Monday, Aug. 28, 2006, in Minnesota Veterans Home, Fergus Falls.

Mr. Halvorson, known as Gordie, was born July 4, 1927, in Fergus Falls, where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1945. He served in the U.S. Navy Sea Bees from 1945 to 1947. On April 21, 1951, he married Mandelyn Engen. From 1951 to 1953, he was a mechanic for Halvorson Garage, Fergus Falls. In 1956, he began working for Otter Tail Power Co. He was a journey lineman, mechanic and digger mechanic. In 1975, they moved to New Rockford, N.D. They moved back to Fergus Falls in 1979. He retired in 1992. In 2002, he entered the veterans home.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Blaine, Overland Park, Kan., Barry (Sue), Battle Lake, Minn.; four daughters, Brenda (Brad) Knight, Castle Rock, Colo., Barb (Rich) Lyons, Chaska, Minn., Becky Halvorson, Fargo, Bonnie (Gary) Hilbert, New Rockford; two sisters, Gerry (George) Wessberg, of California, Gail Muths, Mesa, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Tonight from 4 to 7, with a prayer service at 7, and Friday from 1 to 2, in Hilltop Celebration Church, Fergus Falls.

Funeral: Friday at 2 in the church.

Burial: Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Fergus Falls.
