Jeanette Aaberg, 78, a resident of Rothsay, died Sunday, November 05, 2006 at the Broen Memorial Home, surrounded by her family, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Jeanette Aaberg, 78, a resident of Rothsay, died Sunday, November 05, 2006 at the Broen Memorial Home, surrounded by her family, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

She was born May 2, 1928, in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, the daughter of Martin and Josephine (Arntson) Haugrud. She was baptized and confirmed at the Grove Lake Lutheran Church, rural Pelican Rapids. She graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1946 as an honor student. She served as Clerk of Court for Otter Tail County from 1946 to 1957. She also worked part-time for the Gerald Rufer Law Firm for two years.

On November 9, 1955, she married Obert Aaberg at the Grove Lake Lutheran Church of rural Pelican Rapids. Together they purchased the land and home at their present farm, where they developed the farmstead into the “Aber” Registered Holstein Dairy Farm. Jeanette worked side by side with Obert for 28 years as they exhibited and bred Holstein cattle. They received the 1964 Outstanding Young Farmer Award, and were also named the Red River Valley Outstanding Dairymen Couple in 1975. After the dairy business, Jeanette then played a role in Obert’s sales business. She entered the Broen Home in February of 2002.

Jeanette was a member of Our Savior’s Church and it’s Ladies Aid, and the Oscar 4H Club. She enjoyed sewing and needlework, baking, playing accordion, spending time with family, and had a love of animals.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Helen Lein and Violet Christenson; and three brothers: George, Milo and Orville Haugrud.

She is survived by her husband, Obert Aaberg, of Rothsay; children: Janice Aaberg, Rothsay, Paul Aaberg (Diane Sanstead), Rothsay, John (Joyce) Aaberg, Rothsay, and Mark Aaberg (Kathy Warzecha), St. Cloud; twelve grandchildren: Jordan, Dexter, Nicolas, Nathan, Jasmine, Jade, Amanda, Darin, Tessa, Tye, Mikayla, and Garrett; one sister, Verna Anderson, Fergus Falls; and brothers: Marvin (Clarice) Haugrud, Robert Haugrud, Mike Haugrud, and LeRoy Haugrud, all of Pelican Rapids, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Olson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls, with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service, and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Service: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Our Savior’s Church, Rothsay
