Margaret L. Opem, age 83, passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2008, at the Madrid Home in Madrid, IA. She was born May 26, 1925 in Sandy Lake Township, MN to W.W. “Bill” and Linnea (Morberg) Erickson. Margaret was united in marriage to A. Melvin Opem “Red” on June 1, 1947 at the Presbyterian Church in Carlton, MN.

Margaret was a registered nurse, graduating in 1946 from St. John’s in Red Wing, MN and practiced nursing for 40 years. She was a past toastmistress and won several state awards for public speaking and was very involved with the grassroots North Dakota political process. Margaret enjoyed traveling, her church and her family. Most important to Margaret, was that her family know Christ and His goodness and mercy.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, “Red”. She is survived by her daughter, Karen (Rev.Timothy) Twamley of Grand Prairie, TX and her son, David Opem of CA; grandson, Dr. Christian (Paulina) Twamley of Southlake, TX; great-grandchildren, Ava and Aidan Twamley; sisters, Joyce (Mike) Anderson of NM and Audrey (Oliver) Bogen of St. Paul; 1 niece, 3 nephews and 1 great-niece.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 31, 2009 at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet, MN with a burial service at Sandy Lake Cemetery in Blackhoof Township, MN.
