Wayne H. Slotten, Salem, Ore.
Wayne H. Slotten died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, in Salem, OR, at the age of 74.
Born Dec. 19, 1927, to Harold and Minnie (Aamodt) Slotten in Breckenridge, MN, Wayne grew up on farms near Dwight, ND. He graduated from Wahpeton (ND) High School in 1945. He joined the U.S. Navy the day after graduation. Wayne was a World War II veteran and graduated from North Dakota State University in 1953.
Wayne taught vocational agriculture in Langdon, ND, and Breckenridge. He made a career change to the Agency for International Development (AID) as an agriculture advisor and developer in 1966. Wayne served in Ghana, West Africa, NaTrang, Vietnam, Bangkok, Thailand, and the Cape Verde Islands off the coast of West Africa. He divided his retirement years between Dallas, OR, and a lake home in Dent, MN.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Dulcie; nine children, Greg and Diane Slotten, Dean and Nancy Slotten, Gail (Slotten) Scheet, Paula (Slotten) and Paul Rengstorf, Brenda (Slotten) and Henry Knoll; 13 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and two brothers, Dale Slotten, Fargo, ND, Russell Slotten, Pelican Rapids, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Minnie Slotten.
The viewing will be Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, from 5-8 PM in Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton. The service will be Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at 10 AM in Vertin-Munson Funeral Home. Burial will immediately follow in Dwight Lutheran Church Cemetery.
A memorial service will be held Nov. 30 at 3 PM in Calvary Lutheran Church, Perham, MN.
