Marvin Haugrud, age 90, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died Friday, December 18, 2009, at Pelican Valley Nursing Home in Pelican Rapids.

Marvin Haugrud, age 90, a resident of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died Friday, December 18, 2009, at Pelican Valley Nursing Home in Pelican Rapids.

Marvin Arthur Haugrud was born July 15, 1919, in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, the son of Martin and Josephine (Arntson) Haugrud. He grew up in rural Pelican Rapids and attended Country School District 217 and Pelican Rapids High School. Marvin was baptized and confirmed at Grove Lake Lutheran Church. He served four and one half years in the U.S. Army during the Second World War, in which he was stationed in Hawaii, New Guinea, and the Philippines. On September 14, 1946, Marvin was united in marriage with Clarice Aaberg at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Rothsay, Minnesota. Marvin spent a lifetime farming in rural Pelican Rapids, retiring in 2005 at the age of 86. In July of 2009, Marvin entered Pelican Valley Nursing Home.

Marvin was an active life-long member of Grove Lake Lutheran Church where he served on the council and was active in the men’s Brotherhood. He was also a member of the Pelican Rapids V.F.W. and served as a 4-H leader. Marvin enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing and sawing lumber. For sixteen years he spent part of his winter in Orlando, FL. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.

He will be remembered as a kind, friendly, and loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He was an exemplar of good character, hard work, strong values, and sincere faith.

Marvin is survived by his wife of 63 years, Clarice, Pelican Rapids, MN; three sons: Marlin (Ellen) Haugrud, Sioux Falls, SD, Gary (Janel) Haugrud, Pelican Rapids, MN, and Steven Haugrud, Orlando, FL; two daughters: Eileen (Geoff) Perry, Gig Harbor, WA, and LeAnn (Brad) Atchison, Willmar, MN; eleven grandchildren: Tim (Amy) Haugrud, Karen (Doug) Wiechmann, Laura (Chris) Lindquist, Dan (Allie) Haugrud, Jessica (Greg) Sjostrom, Lance (Penny) Haugrud, Brooke Haugrud, Michael Perry, Mark Perry, Ben Atchison and Lindsey Atchison; six great-grandchildren: Caleb Haugrud, Ava Haugrud, Hayden Haugrud, Ethan Sjostrom, Isabella Sjostrom and Kacie Wiechmann; two brothers: Mike Haugrud and LeRoy Haugrud, Pelican Rapids, MN; one sister, Verna Anderson, Fergus Falls, MN; sister-in-law, Marian Haugrud, Pelican Rapids, MN; two brothers-in-law: Obert Aaberg, Rothsay, MN, and Kenneth Lein, Fergus Falls, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Josephine; brothers: George, Milo, Robert, and Orville; and sisters: Helen Lein, Violet Christenson, and Jeanette Aaberg.

Visitation: Sunday, December 20, 2009, from 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 5:30 p.m. at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. Visitation resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.

Service: 11:00 a.m. - Monday, December 21, 2009, at Grove Lake Lutheran Church, rural Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.

Clergy: Pastor Jeff McCracken.

Military Honors: V.F.W. Post #5252 and American Legion Post #17, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.

Burial: Grove Lake Cemetery, rural Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.

Funeral Home: Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.
