The funeral for C. Truman Wyum of Milnor, ND, will be held on Monday, September 27, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Milnor Lutheran Church, Milnor, ND, with Pastor Curt Larson officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 with a prayer service starting at 5:00 p.m. at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Milnor. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery, Milnor, ND.
Caroll Truman Wyum, son of Aaron and Charlotte “Lottie” (Tennefos) Wyum was born September 28, 1929 on a farm near Rutland, North Dakota. He attended and graduated from Milnor High School. Truman entered the U.S. Navy serving his country from 1947 to 1951. He was an Aviation Machinists Mate for the US Naval Air, and was stationed in the Panama Canal Zone - Naval Air Station Coco Solo. While stationed in the Canal Zone, he flew in the Pacific Fleet with Patrol Squadron Thirty-Two as a Flight Engineer in a PBY float-plane. After returning from the Navy, he entered college to study petroleum geology. Before completing his degree, he returned to the family farm near Milnor, where he farmed with his father and brother.
Truman was united in marriage to Elizabeth Friskop on June 8, 1957 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural DeLamere. The couple made their home near Milnor. In 1966, Truman graduated from the World Wide College of Auctioneering near Mason City, Iowa. He continued to farm south of Milnor until retiring in 1977. In the summer of 1982, they moved into Milnor. Elizabeth passed away on December 25, 1997. Truman continued to make his home in Milnor until 2001, when he became a resident of the North Dakota Veteran Home, Lisbon, ND. In 2002, he moved to the Four Seasons Health Care Center in Forman, ND, and in 2005 he returned to the North Dakota Veteran Home. Truman was a member of the Smith-Thune American Legion Post #148. During his retirement, he enjoyed music, dancing, socializing in the community, and he would never let a game of dice or cards pass him by.

He is survived by his children, Eileen (Dick) Moore, Clarks, NE, Greg (Lauri) Wyum, Montevideo, MN, Lowell (Karleen) Wyum, Forman, ND and Gail (James) Colby, Detroit Lakes, MN; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother George Wyum, West Fargo, ND; a sister Jeannine (Don) Jarrett, Britton, SD; and nieces and nephews. Truman was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth; his parents; and a sister-in-law, Edith Wyum.
