BISMARCK (AP) — The widow of former North Dakota Republican U.S. Sen. Milton Young has died.

Patricia Byrne Young was 87 years old. She died Sunday in Venice, Fla.

Young was a native of Bowman in southwestern North Dakota. She went to work on Young's Washington staff at age 22 after Milton Young was appointed to the Senate in March 1945.

She married Sen. Young in December 1969, six months after the death of Young's first wife, Malinda. Milton and Malinda Young were married almost 50 years.

Milton Young served in the Senate for 35 years. He did not run for re-election in 1980, and he died in May 1983 at age 85.

A Oct. 22 service for Patricia Young is planned at the Holy Rosary Church in LaMoure, N.D.
