Marie Anna Thornberg Fairbanks, 74, West Fargo, died Thursday, March 27, 2003, in her home under hospice care.

Marie Anna Honer was born Nov. 19, 1928, in Dent, Minn., where she grew up and attended school. She worked in the Perham (Minn.) Memorial Hospital as a kitchen aide for two years. On Nov. 17, 1949, she married Bennie Thornberg in Cayuga, N.D. They farmed near Cayuga. In 1975, they moved to Lidgerwood, N.D., and in 1985, they moved to Wahpeton, N.D. He died in 1987. On June 16, 1995, she married Aaron Fairbanks in Wahpeton. They lived in Wahpeton until 2000, when they moved to Milnor, N.D. In 2001, they moved to West Fargo.

She is survived by her husband; three sons, Michael Thornberg, Bennie Thornberg Jr., both West Fargo, Kenneth Thornberg, Spokane, Wash.; a daughter, Anna (Milo) Rossow, Horace, N.D.; four brothers, Alfred (Marilyn), Detroit Lakes, Minn., Lawrence (Pearl), Breckenridge, Minn., James (Sue), Edward, both Perham; six sisters, Irene Asmund, New York Mills, Minn., Anna (Charles) Schmidt, Hawley, Minn., Agnes Honer, Salem, Ore., Evelyn Thornberg, Hankinson, N.D., Ludwina (Robert) Riepe, Detroit Lakes, Louise (Larry) Kempenich, Perham; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Sunday from 4 to 7, with a prayer service at 6, in Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, and Monday from 1 to 2 in St. John’s Catholic Church, Wahpeton.

Funeral: Monday at 2 in the church.

Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Wahpeton.
