Lois passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at Essentia Health in Fargo, surrounded by her family, at the age of 81.
Lois Ann Douglas was born on May 29, 1929, the daughter of Clark and Minnie (Bjugstad) Douglas in Sheldon, ND. She grew up in this area and attended school graduating from Sheldon High School. Lois was united in marriage to Michael John “Jack” McGrath in Sheldon on November 26, 1948. Jack died on November 1, 1961. Lois continued to work on the farm and raise their children. She began working at Cass County Electric in Kindred in 1966, retiring in 1995 after many years of wonderful service. Lois also worked for the People’s and Enderlin State Bank for a brief time. Lois was united in marriage to Jarl Maasjo on April 23, 1988 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Wild Rice. They made their home in Kindred, moving to Edgewood Vista in Fargo in 2010.
Throughout her life, Lois loved spending time with her family. She had a very special place for each and every one of her grandchildren – never forgetting a birthday or holiday. She enjoyed her time in the kitchen cooking and baking as well as time spent shopping and at antique auctions.
Lois is survived by her husband, Jarl of Fargo; her children, Randy (Gary) Fraedrich of Barnesville, MN; Linda (Jerome) Skonseng of Wahpeton, ND; Julie (Byron) Stoffel of Kindred; and Steven (Sharon) McGrath of Glyndon, MN; her 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister, Marion Thompson of Sheldon; her sister-in-law, Catherine Walters (McGrath) of Huntington Beach, CA; several nieces and nephews; and many other very dear relatives.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack; her grandson, Aaron McGrath; and an infant sister, Lucille.
VISITATION: 5-7 PM Friday, April 29, 2011 at St. Maurice’s Catholic Church in Kindred, ND – and also one hour prior to the service in the church on Saturday
PRAYER SERVICE: 7 PM Friday at St. Maurice’s Catholic Church
FUNERAL MASS: 10:30 AM Saturday, April 30, 2011 at St. Maurice’s Catholic Church
BURIAL: St. Mary’s Cemetery in Sheldon
