Howard J. Fischer, 87, Lisbon, formerly of Fargo, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at the North Dakota Veteran’s Home, Lisbon.Howard was born April 22, 1925 to August “Gus” and Verna (Rintoul) Fischer in Leonard, North Dakota. He grew up in the Leonard area, where he attended school. His father was the owner/operator of Fischer Lumber, now Sheyenne Valley. Howard enlisted into the Army serving from 1946-1947. He was stationed in Germany. He returned to Fargo where he married Bonnie Mae LaBlanc at St. Mary’s Cathedral in 1951. The couple made their home in Fargo. Howard worked for Gamble Robinson's from 1947-1967. From 1967-1990 he worked for Holsum Bakery/Pan-O-Gold as a baker. He retired in 1990 at the age of 65.

Howard was very active at St. Mary’s Cathedral as well as numerous community organizations, which included Knights of Columbus, the Elks, the Eagles, and the VFW.
In addition to being known for his continued and unwavering involvement in the many community organizations, Howard will probably be most remembered for his being a diehard fan of Roger Maris and the New York Yankees. Locally, he was an avid follower of the FM Red Hawks. It was recently said by one of his fellow residents at the Veterans Home, “when it comes to the Red Hawks, Howie pretty much gets what he wants.”
He is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Fischer, Fargo; sons, John Fischer, Thief River Falls, John Paul, Elk River; step-daughter, Catherine (Joe) Dorn, Grasston; brother, Myron “LeRoy”, Parkers Prairie; sister, Kathleen Barton, Fergus Falls; 5 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews, and many other very dear relatives.
He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, son, Joseph Gagner; step-son, James Schob; brothers, Charles, Lloyd, August “Gus Jr.”; and sister, Doloris Ladwig.
VISITATION: 5-7 PM Monday, July 30, 2012 at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo and 1 hour prior to the service at the church

FUNERAL MASS: 10 AM Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Fargo
