Norlin O Nelson

Norlin, 85, passed away July 14, 2012 at Haven Homes in Maple Plain, MN after a one year battle with ALS.

He was born February 14, 1927 in Mayville to Cora (Frigstad) and Clarence Nelson. He grew up on the family farm, graduated high school and Mayville State Teachers College with a BS degree in Education.

He was born February 14, 1927 in Mayville to Cora (Frigstad) and Clarence Nelson. He grew up on the family farm, graduated high school and Mayville State Teachers College with a BS degree in Education.

He married Rita K. Northrup on August 20, 1956. They divorced in 1981.

Norlin was a teacher and successful basketball coach in Gilby, Lakota, McVille and finally New Rockford. Upon retiring in 1975, he went on to manage golf courses in New Rockford and Mayville.

He is survived by three children, Roberta (Vernon Houle), Delano,MN, Cory (Gayle Klinkhammer), Jamestown and Nicole (Doug Kartio), Ramsey, MN. Grandchildren, Leah Nelson, Alec Nelson, Taja Kartio and Sage Kartio. One sister, Ardella (Allen Hefta), Grand Forks and 11 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Carol and brother-in-law John Roberts, and a brother Donald.

At his request, no service was held and he was cremated.

His ashes will be laid to rest in the family plot in Mayville. The family would to request that any donations be made to The ALS Foundation MN/ND/SD Chapter.
