Lorraine E. Olien, 79, of Grand Forks, ND died unexpectedly Friday, December 21, 2012 at her home.

Lorraine Ethel Nyhus was born November 28, 1933 in Fosston, MN the daughter of Peter and Hannah (Landsverk) Nyhus. She had many wonderful stories about growing up on the farm. Lorraine graduated from Fosston High School in 1951. In 1952, she moved to Grand Forks and was employed as a secretary for Tri-State until 1954; a secretary for ASC Company until 1959 and a secretary for the YMCA until 1967. From 1984 -2006, she was employed as a cook for Phi Delta Fraternity. For the last 5 years, she has been blessed by many children of the Grand Forks School District where she was a foster grandparent.

Lorraine married Robert “Bob” Olien on October 2, 1954 in Fosston, MN. They were blessed with 2 children, Debbie and Julie. Debbie was claimed in a tragic house fire in 1971 and Bob preceded her in death in 2001. Lorraine was a loving wife and doting mother. She was proud grandmother to her 15 year old grandson, Jordan as well as a true friend to many. Lorraine will live lovingly in the hearts of those she left behind. She was a longtime member of Augustana Lutheran Church in Grand Forks.

She is survived by her daughter, Julie Olien; a grandson, Jordan, both of Grand Forks, ND; a brother-in-law, Al (LouAnn) Olien, Fargo, ND; a sister-in-law, Florence Nyhus, Fosston, MN; many nieces; nephews; cousins and many special friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob; daughter, Debbie Olien and a brother, Ordell Nyhus.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 26, 2012 in Augustana Lutheran Church, Grand Forks, ND.

Family Greeting: One hour prior to the memorial service in the church on Wednesday.

Interment: at a later date.
