C. “Dale” Churchill, 80, Grand Forks, ND passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2012 in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks surrounded by his family.

Charles Dale Churchill was born on September 3, 1932 the son of Charles “Champ” and Daisy (Miller) Churchill in Grand Forks. He graduated from Central High School, Grand Forks in 1950 and attended the University of North Dakota where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. Dale graduated in 1954 from UND with a degree in accounting. He entered the US Air Force serving from 1955 to 1957. In May of 1956, Dale and Clarice Pals were married in Valley City, ND.

Charles Dale Churchill was born on September 3, 1932 the son of Charles “Champ” and Daisy (Miller) Churchill in Grand Forks. Dale graduated in 1954 from UND with a degree in accounting. He entered the US Air Force serving from 1955 to 1957. In May of 1956, Dale and Clarice Pals were married in Valley City, ND.

Dale spent his entire life in the retail shoe business. At the age of 16, he started working with his father “Champ” at their family store The Bootery in downtown Grand Forks. When his father passed away, Dale became the sole owner. Over the years he expanded his shoe business operating to 10 different stores. Currently, Dale’s son Chuck is owner/operator of Churchill’s Shoes/The Bootery Inc. located in Grand Forks.

Dale and Clarice, for the past 30 years, have enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona. He loved the game of golf and his golfing groups the “Bandits” of Apache Wells, AZ and the “Pack” of Grand Forks.

Dale was active in the community; serving the Benevolent Protective Order Of Elks, Lodge #255 as its Exalted Ruler in 1964, Potentate of the Kem Shrine in 1981 and member of The Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Posts.

Dale’s family would like to thank Dr. Lee, Dr. Ryan and the 6th floor nursing staff at Altru Hospital for their wonderful care.

He is survived by his wife, Clarice; sons, Chuck (Diane), Scott, and Doug (Monica) all of Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren, Dirk, Jaclin, Kelly, Michelle, Charlie and Max.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 27, 2012 in Calvary Lutheran Church, Grand Forks, ND.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service in the Historic Norman Funeral Home – Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel, S. Washington St., Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Thursday.

Military Honors: Members of the American Legion Post 157, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817 and the North Dakota National Guard.

Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery North, Grand Forks, ND.
