Bertie L. Hagberg was born July 25, 1928 in Rockford, Illinois to Harrie W. and Florence L. (Miller) Hagberg. She was baptized at Calvary Lutheran Church in Rockford, Illinois on Sept. 2, 1928 and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND on March 29, 1942. Bertie graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1946. She attended Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis, MN graduating with her RN in 1949. In 1956, she received her Bachelor of Science degree from Morningside College of Sioux City, IA and in 1963, her Master's degree from North Dakota State University in Family Relations and Child Development. Bertie also graduated from the United States Army Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, KS.

Bertie graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1946. She attended Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis, MN graduating with her RN in 1949. In 1956, she received her Bachelor of Science degree from Morningside College of Sioux City, IA and in 1963, her Master's degree from North Dakota State University in Family Relations and Child Development. Bertie also graduated from the United States Army Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, KS.

Bertie lived in Bismarck, ND from 1975-1990 then moved back to Fargo. Prior to living in Bismarck, she lived both nationally and internationally due to her assignments with the US Army.

Throughout her career, Bertie held various nursing positions, including the City of Fargo Public Health Department, and the ND State Health Department, Division of Maternal and Child Health. She served in the Army Nurse Corps from 1952 to 1982, retiring as a Colonel. Bertie also served as a nurse with the American Red Cross, and was named ND March of Dimes "Nurse of the Year" in 1981. She retired from active nursing in 1990.

Bertie was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church of West Fargo. She was an active volunteer and member of several organizations including; the ND American Legion; Reserve Officers Association; Charter member of "Women in Military Service for America Memorial Foundation"; American Nurses Association; Public Health Association-ND Chapter of the Great Plains Organization for Perinatal Care.

Bertie died Sunday, December 23, 2012 in Fargo, ND.

She is survived by her brother, Calvin (Joyce) Hagberg of Minneapolis, MN; nephews, Scott, Rick (Rosie), and Keith Hagberg and his son, Jakob, who was very special to Bertie.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Marion Moen.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to St. Andrew Lutheran Church, West Fargo, ND; Calvary Lutheran Church, Rockford, IL or Grace Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND.

Memorial Service: Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 10:00AM at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, West Fargo, ND.

Visitation: One hour prior to the service.

Burial: Riverside, Fargo, ND, Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at 2:00PM.
