Thomas “Tom” M. Kraft, 65, of Grand Forks, ND passed away peacefully on Saturday January 5, 2013 in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Thomas “Tom” M. Kraft, 65, of Grand Forks, ND passed away peacefully on Saturday January 5, 2013 in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Thomas Michael Kraft was born March 24, 1947 in Rugby, ND the son of Michael and Judy (Kelsch) Kraft. Tom attended Rugby High School, where he excelled in football, basketball and baseball. After being named an All-American in baseball at Minot State University, Tom had a brief stint playing minor league baseball. He was a teacher and coach for over 30 years in Esmond, ND, Wishek, ND, Fordville, ND, Hope, ND and Westhope, ND. For the past 10 years, he was a District Manager with the Grand Forks Herald. In 2002, Tom was elected into the Minot State Athletics Hall of Fame. Tom married Susan Streifel in Esmond, ND on June 10, 1972 and had 3 children and 8 grandchildren. Tom was an avid sports fan, collector of sport memorabilia, and proud husband, father and grandfather.

Tom is survived by his wife, Susan; sons, Jared Kraft, Denver, CO, Chad Kraft, Minneapolis, MN; a daughter, Nicole Kraft, Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren, Mitch and Jack, Denver, CO, Noah and Raegan Minneapolis, MN, Drew, Landon and Kamden, Grand Forks, ND; brothers, Bob (Marlene) Kraft Moorhead, MN, Mike Kraft, Fargo, ND, and a sister, Patty Gross, Moorhead, MN.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Judy Kraft; a grandson, Beau Kraft; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Hank and Delores Streifel; and a brother-in-law, Tim Streifel.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations are made to Altru Cancer Center, 960 South Columbia Road, Grand Forks, ND 58201.

Memorial Mass: 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2013 in Holy Family Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.

Family Greeting: 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday with a 4:30 p.m. rosary service and 7:00 p.m. vigil service in Holy Family Catholic Church. Family greeting will continue for one hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Wednesday.

Interment: St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, Esmond, ND, in the spring.
