Verna Marie Kiefer
Verna Marie Kiefer was born on March 13, 1921 at Lake City, SD the daughter of Mike and Louisa (Tscherne) Janisch. She grew up on a farm Southeast of Lake City. Verna attended Lake City High School graduating in 1940. On January 2, 1941 Verna was united in marriage to George “Pete” Kiefer. They lived on a farm near Geneseo, ND for 2 years and then moved to Cayuga in 1946. She worked for Sargent County Home Health as an aide and also worked for International Multi Foods in Forman, ND. In December of 2009 they moved to the Beverly Ann Assisted Living Center in Lisbon, ND.Verna enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, bowling, traveling and was an avid walker. She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, Cayuga Hall Auxiliary, was a founding member of the Cayuga 61’ers Homemakers Club.

Verna is survived by; her Husband; George “Pete” Kiefer of West Fargo, ND, Sons; Robert & Dawn Kiefer of Monticello, MN, Raymond Kiefer & Beverly Matsuda & Isabel & David of Irvine, CA, Daughters; Pamela & Keith Hoistad of Lisbon, ND, Paulet & Richard Rousseau of St. Paul, MN, 6 Grandchildren & 8 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her Parents; Mike & Louisa Janisch, Daughter; Patrice Kiefer Peterson, 5 Brothers & a Sister.
Funeral mass will be Saturday January 12, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Cayuga with Fr. Robert Smith as celebrant and burial will be in the Cayuga Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be: Grandchildren: Michael Kiefer, Paul Kiefer, Ryan Kiefer, Robert Rousseau, Teresa Hoistad, & Michele Hoistad.
