George Whitford

George E Whitford, Jr died peacefully surrounded by family at the age of 93 on January 9, 2013 in Crown Point, IN. He was born December 27, 1919 in Brainerd, MN to George Sr and Denora Whitford. He was united in marriage to the flower of his life, Betty Peppler on September 9, 1944 in Fort Wayne, IN. George served overseas in World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945 as a second lieutenant. He was a lifetime railroader and retired from Burlington Northern Railroad after 35 years as a train dispatcher.

While living in Fargo, George was an avid golfer and was active in the Edgewood Men’s Club and Moorhead Country Club. He was also a member of the American Legion, Elks Club and was an El Zagel Shriner.

George is survived by his wife, Betty, his children Rodger (Linda) Whitford, Hot Springs Village, AR, Debra Richards, Schererville, IN, Joe (Maggie) Whitford, Schererville, IN and Jeanna (Sean) Slusarczyk, Tampa, FL, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A family memorial service will be held Sunday, January 13th.
