Steckler, 87, Dilworth, MN, died on Monday, January 28, 2013, in Sanford Health, Fargo, ND.Vella Kennedy was born on January 4, 1926, in East Grand Forks, ND, to Michael and Margaret (Kulseth) Kennedy. She grew up and graduated from high school there, and then graduated from the University of North Dakota, where she had been head cheerleader. Vella was a professional figure skater, performing with the Ice Follies. She married Erwin Steckler and they lived in Mandan, ND. They moved to Moorhead, MN, in 1971. Vella’s personality was larger than life; her family always appreciated her sparkling, happy presence.

She is survived by her sons, Gary (Roberta) Steckler, Denver, CO, Daryl (Kat) Steckler, Shawnee, Kansas, and Ed Steckler, Dilworth, MN; daughters, Vanette (Kevin) Florence, Golden Valley, MN, and Juli Sande (Barrett Somdahl); sons-in-law, George Rome, Winchester, CA, and Louie Sande, Fargo, ND; twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Patricia, and her siblings Dorothy, Myrna and Kenneth.
Memorials may be given to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Visitation: Friday, February 1, 2013, from 11:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M., in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.
Funeral: Friday, 2:00 P.M., in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead.
Interment: St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
