Jeffridge Jay Sams

Jeffridge Jay Sams, 89, of Glyndon, MN, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2013, in Villa Maria Nursing Home, Fargo, ND, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Jay was born June 20, 1923, in New England, ND, to Frank and Mary (Sackmaster) Sams. His family moved to Minnesota in 1932. He enlisted in the Army in 1944. He took his basic training in Mineral Wells, TX and from there went to Germany to serve in World War II.

Jay married Shirley Mitchell in 1948 and moved to Fargo, where he worked for the Greyhound Bus Line. They moved to Glyndon in 1954, where he worked 30 years at the Glyndon Garage.

Jay is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughter, Marilynn (Rick) Wachter of Maple Grove, MN; sister, Ruby; brother, Duane; four grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Jack and Rolly Sams, six brothers and three sisters.

Jay’s family would like to extend their thanks for his care provided by Villa Maria and Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Memorial Service: Thursday, February 21, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. in Maranatha Free Lutheran Church, Glyndon, MN.

Memorial Gathering: One hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment: Riverside Cemetery, Glyndon, MN.
