Visitation will be held at David Donehower Funeral Home from 5PM until 7PM with a 7PM Rosary Service and 7:30PM Prayer Service. Theresa Marita Lally Haney was born on January 13, 1927, the seventh child of John and Margaret (Houlihan) Lally at the family farm near Vail, Iowa.

Theresa attended country school and graduated from St. Ann's Academy with the class of 1945. She worked at Boys' Town in Omaha, Nebraska for a short time before starting nursing school at Creighton University-St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Omaha. She met handsome Jim Haney on a blind date in the summer of 1946. Theresa graduated in June of 1949 and married Jim on September 3rd of that year.

Theresa enjoyed her profession and held a variety of nursing positions including Director of Nurses while living in Cortez, Colorado. The Haney family moved to Detroit Lakes, Minnesota in 1961 and Theresa worked at Lake Region Clinic and at St. Mary's Hospital before joining the original faculty at Detroit Lakes Area Vocational-Technical Institute, which is now M State. A true educator, Theresa helped more than 400 students achieve their dreams of becoming nurses. Theresa won numerous awards and accolades over the years for her work in establishing and maintaining the highest standards in nursing care and nursing education. After she retired in 1989, Theresa served on the board of directors of St. Mary's Hospital and on the board of the St. Mary's Foundation. At the time of her death, Theresa still served on St. Mary's quality assurance committee and on the advisory committee of the nursing programs at M State. As part of her love for nature and the outdoors, Theresa served on the board of the Tamarac Interpretive Association at Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge for many years.

Theresa and Jim enjoyed cross country skiing, making walking trails in their own little piece of heaven and watching nature from the front deck of their home in the country. Finding pink showy lady slippers each June, awaiting the return of their 40+ hummingbirds each summer and anticipating the first snowfall was especially joyful for Theresa. That all paled in comparison when any of her five grandsons visited. They were the lights of her eyes. When great-grandchildren started arriving, Theresa was over the top.

Theresa is survived by her husband Jim, her son Jim Jr. and his wife Bonnie of Moorhead, daughters Mary Haney of Detroit Lakes and Elizabeth and her husband Reza Maleki of West Fargo, ND, five grandsons, Zebulon Haney and his wife Wendy of Edina, Minnesota, Gabriel Haney and his wife Katie of Moorhead, Gregory Haney of Fargo, Samir Maleki and Jamil Maleki of West Fargo; and six great-grandchildren: Seamus, Aoife, Catherine and Zoe Haney of Edina, and Izabella and Karelina Haney of Moorhead. She is also survived by her brother, John Lally of Denison, Iowa, sister Helen Dieter of Vail, Iowa, sister Genevieve Pribyl of Valley, Nebraska and sister-in-law, Mary Lally of Denison, Iowa. Theresa is survived by the many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and many friends that she kept in touch with by visits, phone calls, e-mail, Facebook and Skype. A busy lady until the moment she suffered a stroke, Theresa is now enjoying a well-earned rest.

She is preceded in death by her infant daughter Catherine Ann, her parents, three brothers, and two sisters.
