Florence E. Jahnke

Florence E. Jahnke, 90, formerly of Durbin, ND went to her heavenly home on Monday, March 4, 2013 at The Lodge on Summit Oaks, Burnsville, MN.

Florence Elvebak was born on Nov. 7, 1922 in Los Angeles, CA to Peder and Ella (Larson) Elvebak. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. Florence was an honor student at Polytechnic High School and attended UCLA. On March 19, 1943, she was united in marriage to Wallace B. Jahnke. After Wallace was discharged from the US Air Force, they returned to Wallace's home in North Dakota, where they farmed, ran the Durbin store and the Post Office and raised 7 children. Wallace passed away in April of 1993, shortly after they celebrated 50 years of marriage. In 1997, she moved to Burnsville, MN and last October moved to Prior Lake, MN.

Florence was proud of her Norwegian heritage. The highlight of her many travels was a 2005 trip to Norway, where she was able to visit her father's boyhood home in Mo I Rana.

Florence was a woman of strong faith. She was a longtime Sunday school teacher and supported many Christian organizations, including a long tenure as treasurer of Camp Joy Bible Camp in Dent, MN. She had a lifelong love of music, especially gospel and gave piano lessons for many years while living in Durbin. She was also noted for her beautiful afghans, many of which she gave away. She lived a long productive life.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Wallace and brothers, Norman, Harris and Leland.

She is survived by her seven children, Peter (Nancy), Bloomington, MN, Lisa (Greg) Seeman, Prior Lake, MN, David (Judy), Grand Forks, ND, Lynn (Lois), Sheridan, WY, Paul (Lori), Woodbury, MN, Jon (Laurie), Austin, TX and Steve (Carol Lynn), Minnetrista, MN; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren; sister, Alice Waide, Vancouver, WA.

Visitation: Friday from 2:30 to 4:30 in the West Funeral Home, Casselton, ND.

Funeral Service: Friday, March 8, 2013 at 4:30 in the West Funeral Home, Casselton, ND.

Burial: Casselton Cemetery, Casselton, ND.
