James Cramer
James W. Cramer, 93, passed away Sunday, March 10, at Maryhill Manor, Enderlin, N.D.James Wilbur Cramer was born February 11, 1920, near Leeton, MO, to Ora Samuel Cramer and Mabel (Cox) Cramer. He was educated in Leeton, and worked at the family farm until enlisting in the US Army in 1942. Jim served stateside for one year, guarding the locks at Sioux Ste. Marie, Michigan. He was then deployed overseas, serving in an infantry combat unit in England, France, and Germany. This unit was part of General Eisenhower's guard company, which set up the general's headquarters in Europe. Jim's unique role during this time was to tend and milk cows, providing fresh milk for the general.

At the end of World War II, Jim returned to the states and settled in the Enderlin area. He and Ethel Kemmer were married on May 11, 1946, in Sheldon, ND. He worked in several occupations, including county road maintenance, automotive repair, and as a butcher. The last 30 years of his working life were spent in his original and favorite occupation, farming with his son-in-law, Joel Schmitz. Jim was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Jim is survived by his wife, Ethel, of Enderlin: six daughters, Margie (James) Hansen, North Topsail Beach, NC: Laurie (Clayton) Stabnow, Absarokee, MT: Lynette (Joel) Schmitz, Enderlin; Gwen (Andrew) Sweet, Ft. Peck, MT; Cindy (Kim) McLeod, Arvada, CO; and Robin (Jarrell) Schock, Ft. Peck, MT; fourteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Virginia Jackson, of Biloxi, MS, and three brothers: Edward (June) Cramer, Garden City, MO; Samuel (Betty) Cramer, Lincoln, MO, and Harlan (Joyce) Cramer, Lincoln, MO; and by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 13, from 5-7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral home in Enderlin, N.D. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 14, at 2 p.m. at United Methodist Church in Enderlin.
