Verna Friday, 98, Hawley, MN, died on Thursday, March 14, 2013, in Viking Manor, Ulen, MN.
Verna Grace Malakowsky was born December 7, 1914 at rural LaBelle Florida to Otto and Christine (Eppler) Malakowsky.
She attended rural school in LaBelle until 1929, when she moved with her family to rural Hawley. She graduated from Hitterdal High School. Verna married John M. Friday on June 5, 1958, in Hawley and they farmed there until John’s death in 1988. Verna moved into Hawley in 1990.
She is survived by her brother, Roy Malakowsky, Hawley, MN; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by six brothers, Herman, August, Walter, Benjamin, Carl, and Jay; four sisters, Alice English, Marie Malakowsky, Edna House, and Elsie West. Verna was a life-long member of the Methodist church and was active in the Methodist Women’s Society as well as the Happy Old Timers Senior Citizen’s Center.
Visitation: Tuesday, March 19, 2013, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M., in Wright Funeral Home, Hawley, MN.
Funeral: Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at 2:30 P.M., in the Hawley United Methodist Church, Hawley, MN.
Interment: Hawley Cemetery, Hawley, MN.
