Harland B. Grones

Harland B. Grones, 96, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Friday at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 PM Wednesday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Msgr. Timothy McGee, officiating. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery.

Friends may call 1 hour prior to the mass at the church on Wednesday.

Harland Bernard Grones was born September 13, 1916 in Minneapolis, MN to John B. and Elizabeth L. (Hoehn) Grones. He was raised and educated in Minneapolis and worked as a Laboratory Machinist for the University of Minnesota during his working career. Harland was united in marriage to Vera Arboe, October 7, 1939 in Minneapolis. He retired in 1980 and they moved to Detroit Lakes that same year. Vera died in 2011.

Harland and Vera loved to travel. It is estimated that they traveled over 450,000 miles on their various vacations. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and tinkering in his shop.

Survivors include a son, Jim and his wife Joyce of Detroit Lakes, three grandsons: Joe Grones and his wife, Becky of Richwood, MN, John Grones of Tamarack, MN, Jeff Grones of Prescott, WI, ten great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren; a brother: LeRoy of St. Cloud, MN and three sisters: Rose Gifford of New Hope, MN, Virginia Nelson and Betty Weinmayer both of Minneapolis. In addition to his wife Vera, Harland was preceded in death by four brothers and sisters. David-Donehower Funeral Home is serving the family. Memories may be shared online at www.daviddonehower.com.
