Donald Meloy Markeseth

Donald Meloy Markeseth was born on the family farm in Tewaukon Township, Sargent County, North Dakota on February 3, 1924, to Gustav A. and Ida R. (Sathe) Markeseth. He attended Tewaukon #4 school district for six years until it closed, then Tewaukon #3 through the 8th grade. Don then began his life of farming. He was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in the summer of 1941.

On November 15, 1947, Don and Bernice Swanson were married at Immanuel Lutheran Church. A daughter, Elaine was born to this couple on April 8, 1952.

They moved to Britton, SD in 1988 and continued to live on the farm during the summer. Don liked farming, horses, music, carving, drawing farm scenes and cookies. He enjoyed visiting and always thanked everyone for coming.

They moved to Dakota Estates in Lidgerwood, ND in November of 2011, and to Four Seasons in Forman in June of 2012.

During his lifetime, Don was on the township board, Immanuel Church trustee, an officer of Sargent County F.H.A. in Forman and on the Immanuel Cemetery Board.

Don passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013, at the age of 89 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND surrounded by his family.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Bernice Markeseth of Forman; his daughter Elaine (Bill) O’Brien of Havana, ND; three grandchildren: Marc, Patrick and Carrie O’Brien of Havana; and a sister, Ruby (Walt) Chelgren of Peoria, IL.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Roger Markeseth.

Funeral: 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 22, 2013 - Trinity Lutheran Church - Havana, ND.

Visitation: 5-7:00 Thursday at the church, with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service.
