Carl William Sweeten, 71, West Fargo, ND passed away peacefully surrounded by family at home on Tuesday, April 9, 2013. Carl W. Sweeten was born on September 20, 1941, to Alfred and Alva Sweeten in Tacoma, WA. Carl spent his childhood in Ft. Lewis, WA.

Carl graduated from Franklin High in Seattle, WA with a class of 500. He sang a solo of “Unchanged Melody” at graduation. He was married to Janet Harvey, Seattle, WA for a period of time.

Carl William Sweeten, 71, West Fargo, ND passed away peacefully surrounded by family at home on Tuesday, April 9, 2013. Carl W. Sweeten was born on September 20, 1941, to Alfred and Alva Sweeten in Tacoma, WA. Carl spent his childhood in Ft. Lewis, WA.

Carl graduated from Franklin High in Seattle, WA with a class of 500. He sang a solo of “Unchanged Melody” at graduation. He was married to Janet Harvey, Seattle, WA for a period of time.

Carl married Eileen Badger of Hope, ND on January 20, 1970. Their first six years of marriage they lived in Seattle, WA. The last 37 years they lived in West Fargo, ND.

Carl has five children: Cathi Mitchell of Edmonds, WA; Carin (Steve) Miller of Fargo, ND; Shawn Sweeten of Portland, OR; Perry (Tammy) Sweeten; and Annette (Kevin) Schroeder of Fargo, ND.

Carl has 10 grandchildren: Susan and Kelleigh Crandell; Nikki Waliser; Matt, Jana, and Courtney Miller; Caden, Sidra, and Addison Sweeten; Aubrey Schroeder.

Carl was an active member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church, West Fargo, ND. He enjoyed many church activities including teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir, being an usher and elder of the church. Carl loved to see his kids and grandkids performing in various activities including band, drama plays, softball, baseball, football, hockey, soccer, swimming, Cub Scouts, Packatana and Spartacas dance team, and also ballet.

Carl really enjoyed his 1968 Mustang and last summer fulfilled his dream of showing it in the West Fargo car show. Some of Carl’s hobbies were having a perfect beautiful lawn, bowling in a league, and doing computer art.

Some interesting things that people didn’t know about Carl were that he loved fishing in the streams of Mt. Rainier, downhill skiing in Seattle, WA; being a Packatana Pack-a-Poppa, Cub Scout Leader, avid Minnesota Vikings and Trekkie (Star Trek) fan.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Al and Jack Sweeten. Carl is survived by his wife of 43 years, Eileen Ann Sweeten, children and grandchildren, his sisters Babe Hoover, WA; Marie Otten, OR; and brothers Ron Sweeten, OK, and Joel Harvey, WA. Carl is survived by his mother-in-law, Evangeline Badger, Valley City, ND, and all the Badger Family.

Carl wanted a special thank you to Dr. D. M. Montes, DDS, Sanford Health; Bryan Seeley, DDS, West Fargo, ND; and Hospice of the Red River Valley.

VISITATION: Friday, April 12, 5:00 to 7:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm at West Funeral Home, 226 4th Avenue West, West Fargo, ND.

FUNERAL: Saturday, April 13, 10:00 am, at St. Andrews Lutheran Church, 1005 1st Street West, West Fargo, ND

Burial: Memory Gardens, Valley City, North Dakota
