Ila Francis Brudevold Shelton

1916 to January 24, 2013

Preceded in death by her husband, Raymond E. Shelton 1917- 2005, son Michael Shelton 1956- 1997,

Survived by her son David [Oregon], Mark [Arizona] and daughter Janie [Texas], along with 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Ila also has numerous nieces and nephews.

Ila was one of those rare women that asked little of life, yet gave much to so many of us. She learned that from her mother, Mae, and the very difficult times she grew up in during the Great Depression while in Fargo. She met her husband Ray while attending business college in Fargo. Ray had recently returned from 5 years of war in Africa and Europe. Both had seen enough of life to know value in people. Both saw value in each other to the day they parted. They lived on Second Avenue for over 50 years until they left for Texas.

Besides trying to keep up with Ray, she raised 4 successful children. David, a PhD from NDSU; Mark, a masterful chef; Janie, physics teacher and PhD candidate at Texas A & M; and then there was Michael, the musician MD-gastroenterologist. In between all that family work, Ila found time to volunteer with Ray and the Boy Scouts, the Lions Club and her church. She rarely missed her weekly women’s Bible study. She has absolute knowledge in the value of prayer, and in the certitude of her Faith in God.

We will celebrate Ila Shelton going home this coming Saturday, April 20th, at the First United Methodist Church in Fargo. Service starts at 10:30 AM. Refreshments will be served afterwards as we share our fond memories of her, and her life. God Bless you all.
