Herbert Enockson

Herbert A. Enockson, age 80, of Fargo, formerly of New Rockford, ND, died Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Bethany Retirement Center.

Herbert was born on April 30, 1932, to Sigurd E. Enockson and Clara (Campbell) Enockson in Chisago City, Minnesota. He grew up and attended school in Enderlin, ND, graduating in 1950.

He served in the air force from 1951 to 1953, while being stationed in Alaska. On March 2, 1955, he married Darlene A. Sours of Lisbon, ND. After their marriage, the couple lived in Fargo briefly before moving to Hopkins, MN, where they both worked at Honeywell. In the late 1960’s and 1970’s, Herbert dabbled in various occupations including carpentry and landscaping. He fought forest fires and drove log trucks in Montana, and worked as a machinist in an above-ground mine in Gillette, Wyoming. In 1976, the couple and their two children moved to Sheyenne, ND, after Herb began working for Devils Lake Sioux Manufacturing in Fort Totten, first as a machinist and then as a supervisor. In the early 1980’s, the family moved to New Rockford.

Herb was an avid outdoorsman. Following his retirement in 1993, he had more time to devote to his favorite hobbies of hunting and fishing. He collected guns, attended gun and boat shows, and was a proud member of the NRA, Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever. He had a vast collection of wildlife paintings and other memorabilia. He traveled all over in search of the best lakes to catch walleyes and the best spots to shoot pheasants and deer. He was also a proud fan of the NDSU Bison, and the Minnesota Vikings and Twins.

Herbert was steadfastly dedicated to his family’s well being and happiness. He never missed an opportunity to tell his children how much he loved them and that he was proud of them. He had a great sense of humor and was generous to a fault.

He is survived by his son, Michael, of Fargo, ND, his daughter, Elizabeth, of West Fargo, ND and one grandson, Zachary Enockson, of Grand Forks, ND. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his siblings, Gustav C. Enockson, Helen Murray, Dorothy Shonteich-Roeser, and Delores Clark.

Visitation: One hour prior to the service.

Funeral: Thursday, April 25, 2013 at 4pm in Mavis Whiting Chapel in Bethany Retirement Living, Fargo ND.

Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon, ND later in the Spring.
