Elsie Carlson

Elsie Carlson went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 1, 2013. Elsie died peacefully with her husband and children at her side.

Elsie was born on Nov 23, 1925 to Tora and Magnus Wrede in Fertile. MN. She attended grade school in Glyndon; her family moved to Valley City where she graduated from Valley City High school in 1944, then on to graduate from Bismarck Hospital School of Nursing. While in Bismarck, she met and fell in love with Levi Carlson, a farmer from Nome, ND. They were married on February 28, 1948 in a blinding blizzard. After retirement, they spent winters in Mesa, Arizona enjoying the warm weather and the company of good friends.

While in Bismarck, she met and fell in love with Levi Carlson, a farmer from Nome, ND. They were married on February 28, 1948 in a blinding blizzard. She is survived by her husband of 65 years Levi Carlson, her children Esther (Glen) Rockwell; Seattle WA, Eunice Carlson; Davis CA, DeLoris Zenker (Darold); Mandan ND, Naomi Foster; Seattle WA, and Carol (Duane) Wadeson; Leonard ND and her grandchildren, Abe and Anthony Zenker and Diane and JoAnne Rockwell, Nick Fields (Katie); Rochester MN and two great grandchildren Ava and Allie Fields.

One of her passions was her nursing career; she worked 27 years at Lisbon Community Hospital. After retirement she continued to apply her nursing skills to assist friends, neighbors and family. The past two years she and Levi lived at Prospect Manor in Lisbon where she cared for Levi.

Elsie was very musically inclined and spent years as church pianist and singing with her young girls. Elsie was also a seamstress and sewed the wedding dresses for her daughters. One of her favorite past times was to walk through the Sheyenne Valley with Levi.

She was a member of the Gideon Auxiliary and served on the state board for years. Elsie's life was a testament of her faith in the Lord.

Elsie was preceded in death by a daughter Karen, her parents, a sister Ingeborg and a brother Carl.

Visitation will be Sunday, May 5th, 5:00 - 7:00pm at Armstrong Funeral Home, Lisbon ND.

Funeral Service will be Monday, May 6th, 10:30am at Elim Evangelical Free Church, Valley City ND.
