Marjorie Maxwell Hammer

Marjorie Maxwell Hammer, 95, passed away at the Good Samaritan-Woodland Nursing Home in Brainerd, MN on May 7, 2013.

She was born in Devils Lake, ND on April 11, 1918, and attended schools in Ft, Totten, ND, Tuba City, AZ, and Belcourt, ND, before graduating in 1936 from Rolla, ND High School. Marjorie then attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, graduating in 1941 with a degree of Bachelor of Arts. She taught in elementary schools in Belcourt, ND and Hansboro, ND, before moving to Minneapolis, where she met and married her husband, O. J. Hammer. He passed away in 1960.

Marjorie moved to Brainerd, MN in 1972 where she resided the remainder of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Emma Borden Maxwell of Brainerd. She is survived by two brothers, Francis of Wellesley Hills, MA, and Ralph of Richville, MN and Sarasota, FL. Also surviving are 12 nieces and nephews and her good friend Bob Jordan of Brainerd. The family wishes to express thanks to Kriss Austin for her compassionate and loving care.

Marjorie was a talented musician (piano and flute) and also specialized in painting and ceramics. She was working on a self-illustrated biography of the four Beatles at the time of her passing.

Graveside services will be 1:00 PM Monday, May 13, 2013 in the Evergreen Cemetery in Brainerd. John C. Borden will officiate. A memorial service is planned for a time not yet selected.
